Funeral services for Geraldine L. “Jerry” Phillips, 93, of Mexia and formerly of Buffalo, have been scheduled for 10 am, Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church in Buffalo. The pastor, Rev. Paula Behrens, will officiate and burial will follow in the Buffalo City Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Raymond Phillips. Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Phillips passed away late Thursday evening, December 14, 2017 in Mexia. She was born September 24, 1924 in Leon County, Texas to R.H. and Jessie (Stone) Long. She was raised in Leon County and graduated from high school there. She moved to Houston where she went to work. She and her husband moved to Texas City where they lived many years. Jerry worked for First State Bank of Texas City about fifteen years. She went to work at the Monsanto Chemical Company as a lab analyst over thirty years.

She and her husband eventually retired and moved to their ranch near Buffalo. They were members of the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church. Jerry enjoyed handwork and made many beautiful pieces. She also quilted, However, her favorite activity was working in her large yard. Her sisters said that she put many happy hours into keeping her yard in a beautiful condition. Although she did not have children of her own, her nieces and nephews as well as many other children considered her to be a second “mom”.

Jerry was preceded in death by her parents and her husband as well as two sisters, Earnestine Featherston and Vela Garland and a niece, Teresa Keahey. Surviving family includes her sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorotha and Kennard Bessire of Buffalo and Judy and George Abraham of Dickinson and numerous nieces and nephews.

During her last months, two special ladies, Judy Angel and Pam McCann, who work for Virginia’s Hospice were also part of her family as they added so much in love and friendship to her life while they cared for her.
