AC Hoyt was born April 25, 1933 to Alva Rueben & Martha Victoria (Manning) Hoyt very near the same location of his present day home in the Centerview Community. He was raised in Leon County and attended the old New Salem School and later, Centerville High School. AC enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country in the “Hell on Wheels” unit during the Korean War. He was responsible for driving and maintaining a truck carrying a large gun. AC sustained injuries during his deployment and was directed to a German hospital to recover. Following his honorable discharge, AC traveled back to his home community where he lived the remainder of his life. During those years he worked as a logger, dozer operator and rancher. He loved fishing and gardening and devoted much of his time to helping others. Whether the task be large or small, AC was always willing and able to lend a helping hand to a fellow neighbor.

AC was the longtime president of the New Salem Cemetery Association. He spent countless hours maintaining the grounds, mowing and making sure the chapel was suitable for upcoming events. He was also a faithful member and deacon of New Salem Baptist Church. AC passed away February 3, 2019 at his home. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; first wife, Gloria Garlene Hoyt; sister, Irene Barnett and numerous nieces and nephews.

Surviving family members include wife, Betty Hoyt of Centerville; son, Lewis Hoyt (Cathy) of Centerville; daughter, Barbara Hoyt of Grimes County; step-daughter, Brenda Brundrett (Rob) of Houston; sister, Norene Barnett of Weatherford; grandchildren, Cad Hoyt (Caroline) of New Waverly; Ashley Hoyt Ramirez (Joshua Dixon) of Centerville and John Brundrett of Houston and great grandchildren Harmen Hoyt and Brendan Ramirez.
