Bonita "Bonnie" Cothran

In the evening hours of Sunday, June 9, 2019, Bonita “Bonnie” Cothran peacefully passed away at the age of 84 and went to spend eternity with her Heavenly Father. Bonnie was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Bonnie was born to Fred and Hazel Burnett on February 19, 1935, in Roaring Springs, Texas. She grew up alongside her two brothers, James and Robert, and sister, Winona.

Bonnie was the matriarch of a large and loving family. She married the love of her life, Max Gerald Cothran, at the age of 15 on September 30, 1950, and spent 69 wonderful years growing in love and experiencing life with him. She exemplified the characteristics of a Godly woman and wife who loved Max with the faithful patience of an angel. She and Max were residents of Pasadena, Texas; Beaumont, Texas; South Houston, Texas; before retiring to their ranch in Oakwood, Texas. Bonnie was an active member of Burke Road Church of Christ, when residing in Pasadena, and Oakwood Church of Christ upon retirement to Oakwood.

With a God-centered grace she raised three boys Gerald Lee Cothran, Lynn Max Cothran, and Cody Wayne Cothran. She is fondly remembered as having a talent for recognizing each of her children’s unique passions and helping them pursue it, always making time for them, and raising them to believe they could achieve anything they wanted to achieve.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Max; brother James; sons Lynn and Cody; daughters-in-law Carla, Veronica and Brenda; grandchildren Sheri, Laura, Eric, Jessica, Casey, Erin, and Andrew; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Hazel, her son Gerald, and siblings Robert and Winona.

First and foremost, Bonnie was a devoted wife and mother. However, in the early 1960’s she was instrumental in helping Max start and run their family business which is still thriving today.
