Iris "Opal" Gordon

Opal Gordon, 80, passed from this earthly life into her heavenly home June 20, 2020 in Palestine, Texas. She was greeted by her parents; husband, John Gordon, II; sons, Larry Mac Shavers & John Gordon, III; two sisters; five brothers, daughter-in-law, Nancy Gordon and son-in-law, Westley Keylich.

Surviving family members include sons, Jimmy (Jean) Templeton of Magnolia & Robert Gordon of Willis; daughters, Christina Pamela Keylich of Lytle & Linda (Larry) Shaver of Oakwood; brothers, Roger (Connie) McSpadin of Porter and Jerry Whitaker of Porter, and grandchildren, Kristie Jo, Josh, Brandi, Victoria, Dyllon, Giuliana, Melissa, Tiffani, Jennifer, Matthew, Michael, Meghan, Clay, Robert, Jimmy & Kirk, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandchild and two more on the way.

Iris “Opal” Gordon was born August 28, 1939 in Porter, Texas to Lewis Bronson & Ruthie Mae (Sprayberry) Howell and worked as a food service manager for both Conroe and Oakwood ISD. She had lived in Oakwood for the past thirty-five years and was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Oakwood. Opal enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing and traveling.

A graveside service will be held 11 A.M., Friday, June 26, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery. Bro. Walter Pickens will officiate the service. A brief visitation will take place before the service from 10 A.M. to service time at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 210 Love St., Oakwood, Texas 75855.

Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas is entrusted with final arrangements.
