A Graveside service for Melba (House) Call, age 93, of Liberty was held 11 A.M., Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Lummus Cemetery in rural northeastern Leon County. Ben Sims officiated the service. Arrangements were under the direction of Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas.

Melba (House) Call, also known as “Odie”, went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2022 in Liberty, Texas. She was one of seven children born to Tony V. House and Violet (Taylor) House on September 26, 1928, in Lonestar, Texas. She attended school in Buffalo, Texas where she made lifelong memories. Her fondest memories were made during her school days spent playing sports and her time on the girls volleyball team where she held a special love for volleyball that followed her throughout her life. Melba was a hard worker, she was a go-getter and was not ashamed of being a strong woman. She instilled a great work ethic into her children that could be passed on through generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Phyllis Carlene McKenzie; brothers, Grover B. House, J.E. House; sisters, Alma H. Kratz, Vera B. Crenshaw and Darcus A. Kratz. Left to cherish her memory include daughters, Donna Kaye Call Rendon (David) and Patrice Call Sims (Ben); grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Tatum, Alison N. Tatum-Davis, Chad Bonds and Leigh E. Smith-Rice; great-grandchildren, Morgan Bonds, Caleb Tatum, Jacob Tatum, Patrica Davis, Finian Davis, Chandler Lancon and Austin Kahla; sister, Mabel Martin and a wealth of family and friends, all of whom will miss her immensely.

Pallbearers: Alison Tatum-Davis, Chandler Lancon, Austin Kahla, Caleb Tatum, Jacob Tatum, Chad Bonds and Morgan Bonds.

The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the staff of Altus Hospice whose capable and loving hands were of great comfort to Odie and her family. Also, to the staff of Magnolia Place for Senior Health Care in Liberty, Texas for their unwavering dedication to her best care and well being during her entire stay.
