A graveside service will be held for Reuben Sullivan Barnett at 11 A.M., on Monday, November 14, 2022 at Boykin Chapel Cemetery in Flo, Texas. Mr. Barnett was born on May 5, 1925 to the late Archie Johnson and Reffie (Williams) Barnett. He was a resident of Buffalo, Texas and passed away in Palestine, Texas on November 8, 2022. His age was 97 years. Pastor Phil Smith will officiate the service and Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Reuben attended Lone Star school in Flo, Texas. He graduated in 1943 and received further education and training in the military. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in June of 1943. During the Army training, he was accepted into the Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force, 490th Bomb Group stationed in Eye England. Reuben served in that branch as a technical sergeant until his honorable discharge in December of 1945.
Reuben married Vera Smith on September 9, 1950 at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in the Red Branch community of Oakwood. They celebrated seventy-two years of marriage together.
His career began with the Texas Department of Transportation. Later he worked as a contractor, remodeling, building family homes and constructing commercial structures, such as the Buffalo Nursing Home. After retirement, he dedicated his time to ranching.
During his lifetime, Reuben served his community as a Buffalo Volunteer Fireman and was a member of the school board for Buffalo I.S.D. He also served on the board of directors for both the Leon County Hospital and the Buffalo Nursing Home.
He was a member of the Buffalo Masonic Lodge serving as Worshipful Master and District Deputy Grand Master.
Reuben was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Barnett and Allen J. Barnett; sister, Dollie Barnett Chubbuck; and sister-in-law, Pearl Ham Barnett.
Surviving family members include wife, Vera Barnett of Buffalo, Texas; daughter, Reda Robinson (Robbie) of Buffalo, Texas; granddaughters, Rebecca Romero (Brennan) of Plaquemine, Louisiana and Rachel Robinson (Aaron) of Fort Worth, Texas; step-grandsons, Gavin and Weston Romero; brother, Rudolph Barnett of Troup, Texas and sister-in-law, Kathy Barnett of Oakwood, Texas.
Pallbearers: Jeffrey Smith, Brandon Smith, Mark Smith, Greg Smith, Robbie Robinson, James Head.
