Carol Ann Wilson

February 27, 1939 — July 8, 2026

Bryan, Texas

Carol Ann Janeba Wilson of Buffalo, Texas, passed away on July 8, 2026, in Bryan, Texas. Carol was born February 27, 1939 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the eldest daughter of Clara and Frank Janeba Jr. In 1945, the family moved to Houston, Texas, where Carol and her sister Kathy grew up and attended Lamar High School.

In school, Carol enjoyed playing the piano and organ, Girl Scouts, dance, and was a member of the chorus in theatrical productions. Carol attended Lon Morris College, which is where she met her husband, Royce Wilson. The two were married on October 10, 1958, in Houston. They had three children, Gayle, Penny, and Johnny, and raised their family in Buffalo, Texas.

Once her children were in school, Carol returned to college at Sam Houston State University, where she earned her degree in Education. She taught students at Leon ISD for 20 years, often sharing memories of her time there with her beloved students. Carol was passionate about teaching, not only in the classroom, but at church as well. She taught generations of students in the Girls in Action and Awana programs at First Baptist Church Buffalo and loved chaperoning for the annual trip to Latham Springs Camp. Carol also faithfully served as FBC’s organist for decades.

Along with music, Carol enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life, including collecting Hummel Figurines, reading, playing 42 with friends, and most of all quilting. She made dozens of quilts for her loved ones and traveled to quilting retreats with her friends. She also used her sewing skills to make clothes for her children and granddaughter, and made many performance and Halloween costumes a reality.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Joseph Janeba, Jr. and Clara Pohorsky Janeba; Royce Wilson and their daughter, Penny Diane Wilson; and her great-grandson, Griffin Ray Shepherd.

She is survived by her children, Gayle Wilson Ray, Johnny Wilson, and his wife Connie of Buffalo; her granddaughter Kayla Ray Shepherd and her husband Derek of Bryan; her sister Kathy Lasater of Cozumel, and numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and loving friends.
