Claude "Odell" Harcrow

Dr. Claude “Odell” Harcrow, Ed.D., age 89, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather (Papa) and great-grandfather went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 16, 2018.

Odell was born July 28, 1929 in Buffalo, Texas. He departed Buffalo after high school to serve one tour during the Korean War as a submarine Radio Man in the Navy and then graduated with a degree in education from Sam Houston State University in 1954. He ultimately went on to earn his Doctorate degree in Education at the University of North Texas. He began his career as a teacher and coach for a number of schools in Texas, later advancing into administrative positions and finally retired as a Superintendent of Schools. Odell truly loved his job of teaching and coaching his students and also just being in their company. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and the peaceful life he and Dortha lived on their farm in Buffalo for thirty-one years after retirement. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Fairfield, Texas.

Odell loved the LORD, he loved and was loved by his family, he worked hard and passionately at everything he did here on earth and yet he always looked forward with joy and anticipation to his heavenly home. Now his joy is complete.

Odell was preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Jesse (Graham) Harcrow; brothers, Howard and Will Grayson and grandson, Christopher Carpenter.

Surviving family members include wife, Dortha Harcrow of Buffalo, Texas; children, Wanda Giron (John) of Plano, Texas, Annette Culp (Tim) of Midland, Texas, Justin Roach (Donna) of Milburn, Oklahoma and Tanya Wright (Robert) of Buffalo, Texas; brothers, Buck Grayson of Branson, MO, C. J. Harcrow of Flynn, TX and sisters, Jessie Butler of Waco, TX, Hazel Brown of Iowa Park, TX, Bobbye Sue Cox of Houston, TX and Jodie French of Fairfield, TX. Odell is also survived by grandchildren Corey Culp, Lindsay Culp Schwab, Kristin Culp Groner, Tanner Culp, Jessy Wright and Austin Roach, as well as great grandchildren, Jacob Carpenter, Cassidy Wright, Brynlee Wright and Linden Schwab.

Funeral services for Odell will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas. Jason Schick will officiate the service and interment will follow in the Lummus Cemetery in the Flo Community in Leon County. A gathering of family and friends will take place Friday, August 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
