Darren Wayne Mills

Darren Wayne Mills was born April 24, 1985 in Fairfield, Texas to Dennis Wayne Mills & Glenda Lee (Castles) Mills, the eldest of three children. He was raised in Buffalo, Texas and was a graduate of Buffalo High School.

Darren was a cowboy through and through. It was his occupation, but even more, it was in his blood. He loved horses, he loved his friends, and he loved the cowboy way of life. That life and that legacy included an unwavering loyalty to cattle, land, and people. He was quick to laugh and even more quick to the draw to make others laugh. In fact, his infectious personality will be what friends and family will hold close in memory and in heart. Darren enjoyed fishing and hunting when he could. But, odd as it sounds, this hand also enjoyed playing video games. True to his roots, Darren loved reading western novels. He was an “old soul” and enjoyed conversations with the elder generation of Leon County folk. He and his wife, Maddy, had lived in Waco for the past year-and-a-half. Darren passed away January 3, 2022 in Waco, Texas.

Surviving family members include wife, Maddy Mills of Waco; father, Dennis Mills (Kim Moyer) of Jewett; mother, Glenda Mills of Buffalo; daughter, Kelcie Mills of Jewett; brothers, Trent (Erin) Mills of Kansas City, MO and Justin (Brandy) Mills; maternal grandparents, Glenn & Janis Castles of Buffalo; paternal grandparents, Marvin Mills of Buffalo and Ruby Mills of Buffalo; niece & nephew, Layla Waters & Landon Mills; “brother,” Stephen (Ruby) Pate and their children, Aidyn & Casen and his faithful dog, Newt (Pootie).

A celebration of Darren’s life will be held 2 P.M., Friday, January 7, 2022 at the Leon County Expo Center. Interment will follow in Old Bowling Cemetery in the Old Bowling Community of Leon County, Texas. A visitation will take place Thursday, January 6th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas.
