Dorothy Lou Pate

On June 28, 2020, Dorothy Lou Pate went to sleep in Austin, Texas and reawakened with her Lord and Savior in heaven. Born the sixth child of Albert Baker and Viola Kulbeth Baker on September 14, 1920 in Buffalo, Texas, Dorothy graduated from Buffalo High School, being identified in her yearbook as Most Beautiful Girl. Soon thereafter, she moved to the big city of Dallas, Texas taking a job as an operator for Southwestern Bell where she would work until her retirement after 38 years of service. Her younger sister, Helen Baker Vaugh, soon followed Dorothy to Dallas and the two of them lived near one another in Richardson, Texas talking every day and enjoying the adventures of life together. On November 14, 1982, Dorothy married Aubrey Pate of Buffalo, Texas, a man that she had dated in high school, and became a second mother to his three adult children. Dorothy and Aubrey lived happily in Richardson, Texas until his passing on November 11, 2008, after which Dorothy remained close to her sister Helen, Helen’s husband David Vaugh, her children and grand-children, and her nieces and nephews.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Ron (and Debbie) Pate of Hilltop Lakes, Texas, Keith (and Eleanor) Pate of Waco, Texas, and Marilyn (and Dick) Gimble of Waco, Texas and by her many grand-children and great-grand-children. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Aubrey, brothers Robert, Fred, Albert, Rudolph, and Ray Baker, and sister and life-long companion Helen Baker Vaugh.

Dorothy will be laid to rest in a graveside service at Buffalo Cemetery (1700 East Commerce Street, Buffalo, Texas, 75831) at 1:00 PM on July 2, 2020. Visitation will be at Buffalo Cemetery immediately preceding the service.
