Hines Garland

A memorial service for Hines Garland, age 96, of Buffalo, will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 1:00 P.M. in the Buffalo High School Auditorium. Durwin Hohhertz will officiate the service.

Mr. Garland went to sleep peacefully at Palestine Regional Hospital in Palestine, Texas on Monday, November 27, 2017. He was born February 19, 1921, the son of John William & Dora Mae (Hines) Garland and was a lifelong resident of Buffalo. Mr. Garland was a graduate of Buffalo High School and worked in numerous areas of the community including, farming and ranching where he bailed hay and raised a lot of watermelon, the concrete business, and as owner of several Shamrock Service Stations. Mr. Garland’s main occupation was that of Minister. He was a member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Buffalo. Mr. Garland assisted in building the Denton Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and later served as an active Elder in the Buffalo Congregation.

On April 11, 1954, he married Janet Evelyn Knight, celebrating sixty-three years together. To this union were born four children: Jon Mark, Jerry Thomas, Nathan Gene and Leah Joy.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; two sons, Jon Mark of Buffalo and Jerry Thomas (wife, Sherry) of Nashville, TN and one daughter, Leah Joy (husband, Terry) of New Jersey. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Amber Joy of Bryan, Justin Garland of Nashville, TN, Ashlee Bonner of Whitehouse, Kellye Brown (husband, Pat) of Leadville, CO and Camille McCarty (husband, Shaun) of Buffalo; nine great grandchildren: Melia Joy, Braden Bonner, Alairah Joy, Gavin Bonner, Farrah Joy, Landan Bonner, Noah Joy, Nolyn Bonner and Echo Joy and two great, great grandchildren: Blair Jensen and Jude Vesquez.

Mr. Garland was preceded in death by both of his parents; son, Nathan Gene and his siblings.

Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo is entrusted with final arrangements.
