John Charles "Stormy" Gloor, Jr.

Funeral services for Stormy Gloor, age 67, will be held 1 P.M., Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Calvary Christian Center near Oakwood, Texas. Rev. Jack Smith & Rev. Bill Shaw will officiate the service. Interment will follow in the Pate Family Cemetery. The Gloor family will receive friends Tuesday, November 19th from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Pate Brothers Cattle Company, 4120 East Commerce St., Buffalo, Texas 75831.

Stormy was born John Charles Gloor, Jr. on July 16, 1952 in Dayton, Texas. His parents were John Charles, Sr. & Anita Joyce (LaBuff) Gloor.

Stormy’s life could be summed up in two main stages. First, there was the “rodeo career stage” of Stormy’s life. Here, he traveled the country and made lifelong friends and memories while qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo in 1975 and 1976.

Then came the “family stage.” Stormy and his loving wife, Sherry, raised their girls in Fannett, Texas where he worked offshore and owned J&S Oil Tools with his dad. They were very involved in the girls’ lives and with their friends and family.

In 1994, Stormy, Sherry and Mandi moved to Buffalo and were welcomed with open arms. Stormy could always be seen driving through town in his flat-bed truck and usually with a grandkid or two in tow, especially when they were younger.

Being a husband, father, and Papa were among Stormy’s proudest accomplishments. He was so proud of all of the grandkids. When asked to describe their favorite memories, the grandkids included hunting, opening gates, cattle paperwork and sharing the most important moments of their lives. But most importantly, it was the time and attention their Papa lovingly showed them.

While he is no longer with us, the memories and lives that he touched will live on forever. He was a son, brother, husband, father, friend, Papa, and cowboy; but more than that, he was loved by all who knew him. His radiant smile, silly jokes, and contagious laugh will be missed, but this is how he would want to be remembered.

“Rest in peace to the toughest and most humble cowboy. Those wings will look great with your hat and boots. Save a seat in the stands for us at the rodeo.”

Stormy was preceded in death by both of his parents and two sisters, Tracy and Dene’. He is survived by wife, Sherry Gloor of Buffalo; daughters, Brandi Sewell (Coy) of Beaumont and Mandi Pate (Kevin) of Buffalo, as well as, grandchildren, Macoy Sewell, J.D. Sewell, Katee Sullivan, Shelley Pate and Samantha Pate and great-grandchildren, Drennan, Eliot & Rory Sullivan.
