Funeral Mass for John D. Morris, age 85, will be held 11 A.M., Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Buffalo, Texas. Father Mark Kusmerik will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Buffalo Cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas.

John was born December 16, 1940, in East Bernard, Texas to August and Josaphine Morris. He was raised by his father and step-mother, Dorothy, as his biological mother had passed away when he was five years old. John joined the U.S. Air Force on March 3, 1958. He served in Strategic Air Command (SAC) and was discharged on March 2, 1962. John married Margie Brasher from Eagle Lake, Texas that same year.

John worked at WKM for a short period of time, before being employed by Schindler Brothers Steel in Sealy, Texas, where he worked for the next ten years. John moved his family to Buffalo, Texas in 1975, to begin working for Nucor Steel in Jewett, Texas where he worked as a supervisor for the next twenty-eight years before retiring in 2002.

John was a founding member for Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church where he was an active member until his death. John loved to fish and bird hunt, and he also enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his family.

John was preceded in death by his father, mother and stepmother of East Bernard, Texas; his wife, Margie Louise Morris of Buffalo; daughter, Eileen Davis of Tennessee Colony; half-brother, Bernard G. Morris of Wharton; and brother-in-law, Alfred Minks of East Bernard.

He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Cadenhead (David Bellow) of Oakwood and son, David Morris of Buffalo, as well as grandchildren, Casey Privette (Kaitlin Bohn) of Waco, Stephanie Reed (Andy) of Tennessee Colony, Mark Davis (Megan), Christopher Privette (Genia Beshears), Kayla Morris (Eddie Duke), Rachel Morris, all of Buffalo; and great-grandchildren, Landon & Piper Reed of Tennessee Colony, Riley & Cason Davis, Alic & Alexia Callaway, Hadley Privette, Brenton Rutledge, Maddox, Lennox, Jameson, & Jackson Duke, all of Buffalo & Sailor Privette of Waco. John is also survived by his sister, Shirley Minks of East Bernard, and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the Morris family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, 220 North Merril Street, Buffalo, Texas 75831.
