Funeral services for Mr. Lee Royce Sanders, 86, of Marquez are set for 12 noon, Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Visitation will be held before the service from 10 AM until 12 noon. Burial will follow in the Seale-Round Prairie Cemetery in Robertson County.
Lee Sanders was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on July 16, 1931 to Audy Belton Sanders and Ella (Kemper) Sanders. He was a Baptist by faith. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Sanders grew up in Oklahoma, but lived in Pasadena, Texas for most of his life. He retired from Albemarle Corp. as a security foreman. He also owned his own detective business for a while. He was a Mason and was an avid reader. Mr. Sanders was a baseball coach for his sons and was also an umpire. He enjoyed water skiing. Later in life, he followed world events on FOX news. Mr. Sanders lived the last thirty years of his life in Marquez. He passed away on August 19, 2017 at a daughter’s house in Montgomery, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristi Lee Sanders; by a grandson, Kenneth “Chipper” Pittman; by sisters, Jenny Ruth Sanders, Maxine “Mickey” Hammond and Lelia Mae Long and a brother, Donald Wayman Sanders. Surviving family includes his wife, of 63 years, Frankie Dean (Petty) Sanders of Marquez and Livingston; sons, Richard Nelson Sanders and Del Ray Sanders, both of Goodrich, Texas; daughters, Pamela Elaine Thompson of Burleson, Texas and Debra Kaye Sanders of Montgomery, Texas; brother, Melvin Jack Sanders of Deer Park, Texas; son-in-law, Roger Dale Stringer; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren (and one on the way).
Serving as pallbearers are Eric Padgett, Kade Pittman, Kris Pittman, Cole Lumley, James Barns, Michael Nasra, Lee Royce Sanders, II, Jackie “Scooter” Callaway and Noah Ray Sanders. Honorary pallbearers are (Lee’s brother) Jack Sanders, Mr. Modesto Munoz, Mr. Willie Scott, Mr. Alton Honeycutt, Mr. Wes Venable and (Lee’s son-in-law) Roger Dale Stringer.
