Linda Louise Slatter Pate, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, departed this world on January 16, 2026, in Waco, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on February 28, 1942, to Bill & Zelda (Carmichael) Slatter, in Teague, Texas, Linda was a beacon of love and warmth throughout her life.
Linda dedicated over thirty years of her life to working at the Weathervane, where she immersed herself in various aspects of the restaurant. Her passion for hospitality and dedication to her work was evident, serving meals and creating lasting memories for many who came to know her over the years.
Beyond her career, Linda was a woman of deep faith. She found solace in her daily readings of the Bible and cherished her relationship with the Lord. Her steadfast faith was a guiding light in her life, bringing comfort and strength to her family and friends.
Those who knew Linda will remember her love for nature, particularly her enjoyment of watching the birds and other animals from her porch. Many afternoons were spent sitting on her porch, coffee (or Diet Dr. Pepper) in hand, delighting in the simple pleasures of life. Family trips were dear to her, with memories of vacations including a special recent trip to Branson, Missouri. Linda adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. Her legacy shines brightly through them, as her influence will continue to guide and inspire. Linda's personality was as vibrant as her smile. She had a fondness for QVC television, often sharing her latest finds with family and friends.
Linda is survived by her son, Jimmy Pate (Sherry) of Buffalo; her daughter, Melissa Ansley of Buffalo; and her brother, Paul Slatter (Glenda) of Oakwood. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of grandchildren, Rush Pate (Candice), Krystal Bilodeau (Billy), Mitchell Pate (Katy), Daniel Ansley (Allison), Dylan Ansley (Christy), Jennifer Kingsbury, and Bridget Gauntt (Dean); along with great-grandchildren, Nolan, Konnor, Landon, Hayden, Cash, Blayne, Jace, Pate, Embry, Lydie Louise, Brayson, Zach (Layla), and Kenlee (Cooper), who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. Her faithful dog of fourteen years, Angel, was always by her side, providing companionship and love.Linda's nurturing spirit extended far and wide. She considered her special cousin Nellie LeGalley as close as a sister. In addition, Tonya Lopez (Nicolas), Savanna, Carla, Carmen, and Alvaro were very dear to her heart.
As we gather to honor Linda’s beautiful life, we remember her kind spirit and the laughter she brought into our lives. She is now reunited with those who preceded her: her parents, Bill and Zelda Slatter; her husband, Bubba Pate; her son, Nathan Pate; her grandson, J.W. Bottoms II; and her son-in-law, Dan Ansley.
