Melvin Charles Laningham, Sr.

Melvin Charles Laningham, Sr., age 68, of Buffalo, Texas passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded in love by his family when he left his earthly home to move on to his heavenly home.

Melvin was born October 13, 1950 in Buffalo, Texas to John Sr. & Mae (Brown) Laningham. He was raised and lived his entire life in Buffalo.

Melvin worked at various placed of employment including Champion Homebuilders, Nucor Steel and Buffalo Independent School District. He most loved being with his family, which is a rather large group. He was a “country boy” through and through, never missing an opportunity to hunt and fish or just take a ride down an old dirt road and be outdoors. Melvin was truly a man of his word and simply put--a good person. He will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Melvin is survived by the love of his life, Judy Johnston; sons, Melvin Laningham, Jr. and wife, Valerie, of Buffalo, Michael Laningham & wife, Melba, of Prairie Grove Arkansas & Matthew Laningham of Jewett; step-sons, John Johnston & wife, Aaryn, Matthew Johnston & wife, Sujeiss, of Buffalo; grandchildren, Dylan Laningham, Hailey Oliver, Hannah Laningham, Kymber Laningham, Trevor King, Haley King, Brianna Johnston, Robert Johnston & Rylan Johnston; great grandchildren, Aubree Laningham, Archer Oliver, & Paxton & Emerson Bishop; sisters, Carolyn Slaughter and Shirley Helm, both of Buffalo; niece Dana Tullos of Centerville; nephews, Sonny Taylor & Steven Helm, both of Buffalo, as well as, numerous great nieces & nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents John & Mae Laningham; brothers, John Jr. & Elmo Laningham and nieces, Johnette Clark and Janie Gafford.

A celebration of Melvin’s life will be held 2 P.M., Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas. Pastor Lloyd Lane will officiate the service. The family will receive friends Monday, March 4th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
