Obituary

Theresia Irene (Minton) Stone Mathis was born on March 13, 1939, in Marked Tree, Arkansas to her loving parents, Sidney Burrell Minton and Bessie Inez (Edge) Minton. She was welcomed at her birth and her death by her parents, four siblings, five half siblings, first and second husbands and numerous other family members. She entered into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after a long battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Theresia grew up in Hazen, Arkansas, where she spent many days at the local diner where her mother worked. Theresia performed in many plays, was a cheerleader, played basketball in De Valls Bluff, Arkansas, and was Valedictorian of her class. Theresia married her first husband, Doyle Stone and they had two children. They raised their family in Deer Park, Texas.

Theresia later married Richard Mathis and they lived in Pasadena, Texas.

Theresia spent her career as Credit Manager working for three different companies: JJ Newbery, Hogan Fluid and Power and finally retiring from Waukesha-Pearce Industries.

In her retirement, she and Richard moved to Buffalo, Texas, and enjoyed traveling this country in their fifth wheel and the world by air. They visited Canada, England, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Israel.

Theresia loved the Lord and was an active member at Calvary Christian Center in Oakwood, Texas until her health prevented her from participating. She was always comforted by the knowledge that, “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Cor. 5:8)

Theresia was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Minton and Bessie Edge Minton; her four siblings, CD, Earl, John, and Wanitta; and her half siblings Maggie “Opal” Weems, May, Alton, Adele, and Rosemond.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Doyle M Stone, Jr. (Louise), Annette McKlesky (Ron), Mike Mathis (Marilyn), Greg Mathis, Bob Zapf (Kona) and Martina Lopez; nine grandchildren, Doyle III “Trey," Casey, Morgan, Riley, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Julie, Stacy and Jason; and twenty great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins and friends she considered family.

A graveside service and interment will be held 11 A.M., Friday, October 9, 2026, at Buffalo Cemetery, and will be officiated by Rev. Jack Smith, pastor of Calvary Christian Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Christian Center, P.O. Box 1973, Buffalo, Texas 75831.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas -- A Walters Family Funeral Home.
